IOC: No Torch in Tibet! (Warning: Graphic Content)

One World, One Dream

“One World, One Dream” is China's Olympic slogan. But the reality of China's occupation of Tibet is a nightmare. Right now thousands of Tibetans are being arbitrarily detained, beaten and killed for speaking out for freedom.

Chinese authorities hope that by taking the torch up Mount Everest and through Tibet they can legitimize their brutal rule over Tibet in the eyes of the the world.

The Game is Over.

Tibetans and supporters have opposed China's plan to take the Olympic torch relay through Tibet from the moment the Beijing Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games (BOCOG) proposed the torch route in April 2007.

At a time when Tibetans are living under a climate of fear and being detained, beaten and killed for peaceful protests, parading the torch through Tibet will only provoke tensions and lead to further suffering.

Speak Out: Tell the IOC No Olympic Torch in Tibet!

The Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) met in Athens this week. This was the last time board members will meet before the Olympics in August and just days before the Olympic torch is scheduled to make its first stop in Tibet.

Make sure each IOC Executive member hears from Tibetans and supporters worldwide. Call their offices and voice your concerns about the torch going to Tibet. Also, call for immediate media access to Tibet. Contact information is available here.

More detailed information about Tibet and the propaganda of China's Olympic Torch Relay can be found here.

1. Since China invaded Tibet in 1950, more than 1.2 million Tibetans have died as a direct result of the occupation, more than 6,000 monasteries have been destroyed, and thousands of Tibetans have been imprisoned and tortured for their political or religious beliefs.

2. The Dalai Lama, Tibet's political and spiritual leader, was forced to flee Tibet in 1959. He escaped to India along with more than 120,000 other Tibetans, and established the Tibetan Government in Exile in Dharamsala, India.

Recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize and Congressional Gold Medal for his commitment to nonviolence and human rights, the Dalai Lama continues to be vilified by the Chinese Government.

Last November, Tibetan nomad Runggye Adak was sentenced to 8 years in prison for simply calling for the return of the Dalai Lama to Tibet.
